The basics
What is a mobile proxy?
The short version, the mechanism underneath it, and the part most pages leave out.
A mobile proxy routes your traffic through an IP address that a mobile carrier assigned to a device on its 3G, 4G, 5G or LTE network. The site you visit sees a request that arrived from a phone on that carrier, in that country — not from your own connection, and not from a server in a data centre.
What is a mobile proxy server?
The server is the thing you actually connect to: one hostname and one port. It checks your username and password, reads the settings you've encoded in that username — country, state, city or mobile ISP, plus the session you named — and forwards the request out through a carrier address that matches. The reply comes back the same way.
That's why setup is four fields rather than a piece of software. Anything that can speak to an HTTP proxy can speak to this one.
Why carrier addresses are treated differently
Mobile networks don't give every phone its own public address. Large numbers of real subscribers share each one, and those addresses get reassigned constantly as people move around and reconnect. Two things follow. Reputation services can't treat a carrier address as belonging to one person, so they score mobile networks as the most trustworthy kind of address — well above home broadband, and far above the data centre ranges that get flagged on sight.
And a phone whose address keeps changing isn't suspicious, because that's what phones do. It's the reason mobile IPs rotate without looking odd, and why a static ISP proxy is the better tool when you need one address to stay put for months.
Mobile proxies vs residential proxies
People search for a "mobile residential proxy" as though it were one thing. It isn't. A residential proxy exits through a home broadband line — a router in a house. A mobile proxy exits through a phone on a carrier network. Both are real consumer connections, and both beat a data centre, but the carrier address is the more trusted of the two and costs more per gigabyte because of it.
Residential is the better buy when you're collecting data at volume and the targets aren't fighting hard. Mobile earns its price on the sites that block everything else.
Do 4G mobile proxies differ from 5G?
For detection purposes, barely at all — 4G mobile proxies and 5G mobile proxies carry the same weight, because what a site scores is the carrier network the address belongs to, not the generation that served it. What the newer networks change is speed and latency. Traffic on 5G comes back faster than 3G, which matters when you're loading full pages rather than fetching JSON.

What a mobile proxy isn't
People often search for a mobile proxy VPN, but the two aren't the same thing: a proxy moves only the traffic you point at it, while a VPN routes everything on the device. And it doesn't touch your browser fingerprint, cookies or how you behave once you arrive. A trusted address is the first check a site runs, not the only one, so a carrier IP paired with an obviously automated session still gets caught.

How do I get a new mobile proxy IP?
Change the sessid value in your username and connect again — the new value starts a new session on a different carrier address. If you're rotating rather than holding a session, a new address is drawn automatically on every request without you doing anything.
What happens if I don't set a session ID?
You get rotation: every request exits on a different carrier IP from the pool, still inside whatever country, state, city or mobile ISP you selected. That's the right setting for gathering data, and the wrong one for anything that involves logging in — a login that starts on one address and continues on another looks exactly like a hijacked session.
Is there a static mobile proxy that keeps the same IP?
No — there's no static mobile proxy option, and we don't sell dedicated mobile proxies or private mobile proxies either. Thirty minutes is the ceiling on a sticky session, and when it expires the next request draws a new address even if you keep the same session ID. That's normal behaviour for a carrier network, since real phones change address constantly — but it does mean mobile is the wrong product if your job needs one address to stay put for days or weeks.
For that, static ISP proxies keep a single IP indefinitely, and private dedicated IPs do the same on an address nobody else touches.
How many sessions can I run at the same time?
As many as you need. There's no concurrency limit and no thread cap on any plan, Starter included, and running more sessions doesn't cost more — the only thing metered is the bandwidth they consume between them.
Can I combine city and mobile ISP targeting?
No — targeting is one axis at a time. You pick a country first, then narrow it by mobile ISP, location or US state, and the username carries whichever one you chose. So you can have every request exit on AT&T, or every request exit in Amsterdam, but not both conditions at once.
How do I target a specific US state?
Select the United States, choose State, and pick from the list — the username picks up a token like state-us_alabama. City targeting works the same way with a city- token, and mobile ISP targeting with an asn- one.
Can I edit the username myself instead of using the dashboard?
Yes. The dashboard builds the username for you from the settings you pick, but it's a plain string and you can change it in your own code — most usefully the sessid value, which is how you spin up additional sessions without going back to the client area at all.
Are these 4G proxies or 5G proxies?
Both, plus LTE and 3G — they come from the same pool and cost the same. You don't pick a generation when you buy, because the address you get depends on what the subscriber's phone was connected to at the time. A 5G proxy and a 4G proxy from the same carrier are equally trusted; 5G is simply faster, which matters when you're loading full pages rather than fetching JSON.
So if you're shopping for 4G proxies specifically, this is that product — we just don't sell the generations separately, because for everything except speed they behave identically.
Which tools do mobile proxies work with?
Anything that accepts an HTTP proxy with a username and password, which in practice is everything: anti-detect browsers, proxy managers, account-management tools, Scrapy, Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright, plain cURL. You're entering four values — host, port, username, password — into fields those tools already have. There's no SDK, no plugin and nothing that only works inside our own software.
How is bandwidth counted, and how do I use less of it?
Every byte in both directions counts, including page assets you didn't want. The biggest savings come from blocking images, fonts, video and analytics scripts in your automation tool, requesting an API endpoint instead of a rendered page where one exists, and not re-fetching what you already have.
Loading full pages with media is what empties a plan fastest — a video-heavy site can burn more in an hour than a text scrape does in a week.
Can I limit how much data one configuration uses?
Yes. Each saved proxy user has its own data limit, so a teammate or a script gets a hard ceiling of its own. A job that misbehaves overnight stops when it hits that limit rather than working through the whole month's bandwidth.
What happens if I run out of bandwidth mid-month?
You can add data from the dashboard without changing plan or waiting for the cycle to reset — the top-up applies to the current period straight away. If you're consistently running out, moving up a plan lowers your rate per gigabyte, so it's usually cheaper than repeated top-ups.
Are there unlimited mobile proxies?
Depends which part you mean. Sessions, IP rotations and concurrent connections are unlimited — draw as many addresses as you like, run as many at once as you like, on any plan. Bandwidth isn't. Every plan includes a set number of gigabytes, and anyone selling genuinely unlimited mobile data is either throttling it or reselling something that isn't a carrier IP.
If you want unlimited traffic on a fixed price, that's what static ISP proxies and private dedicated IPs are — billed per IP with no traffic meter, though you give up rotation and the carrier trust score to get it.
A site is still blocking me. What should I check?
Start by retiring the session — change the sessid and you're on a different address in seconds. If it keeps happening, the address usually isn't the problem. Check that everything else agrees with it: a session exiting in Amsterdam with a US timezone and English-US locale contradicts itself, and that mismatch is a stronger signal than the IP is.
After that it's behaviour and fingerprint — request pace, headers, browser configuration. A carrier IP clears the first check a site runs, not the ones after it.
